How do I winterize my camper?

Here is what I do:

  1. Remove any inline water filters and bypass before starting.
  2. Make sure fresh, grey and black tanks are drained and flushed.
  3. Drain the water heater. Bypass the water heater by closing the hot and cold valves and opening the bypass valve.
  4. Open all hot and cold faucets; don’t forget the toilet valve and outside shower.
  5. Locate and open the low point drain lines. There will be one for the hot and cold water lines. Using the water pump will help force water out. Turn off water pump when drained. Some people will force air through the lines...your choice.
  6. Recap all drains and close all faucets so your antifreeze doesn't dump out.
  7. Install a water pump converter kit, or disconnect the inlet side of the water pump (the line coming from the fresh water holding tank). Connect a piece of clear tubing to the inlet side of the pump and put the other end into a one-gallon container of non-toxic RV antifreeze.
  8. Turn the water pump on and pressurize the system. Starting with the closest faucet, slowly open the hot and then cold valves until antifreeze appears. Repeat this process on all faucets/toilets/showers etc from the closest to the farthest away. Don’t forget the outside shower and toilet.
  9. Turn the water pump off and open a faucet to release the pressure. Go outside to the city water inlet. Remove the small screen over the inlet and push in on the valve with a small screwdriver until you see antifreeze. Replace the screen.
  10. Pour a cupful of antifreeze down each drain. Pour a couple of cups in the toilet and flush into the holding tank.
  11. Close all faucets.
  12. Charge battery. I remove and put inside to extend life.
  13. Check seals (especially roof corners) and caulk if necessary. Consult your owner manuals for winterizing icemakers and washing machines. YouTube is great refresher as well. Of course, if you don't know what you're doing or don't feel safe doing, hire someone.

If you want tips on how to winterize your camper, check YouTube. There are a lot of videos out there made by dealers that show how to winterize a camper. Having a helper makes the job easier too. Of course, if you have absolutely no idea what you are doing, leave it to the professionals.
